I am a fan of having my curly hair with knotless braids. This style of defense provides me with a break from all the hassle that comes with taking care of my natural texture. It also helps my hair to grow. For young people, when it’s time to pull out those braids, the result is typically a huge mess.
In reality I’ve always considered the exhausting wash day routine an essential problem that I should be aware of if I wanted to keep your hair with braids (which is what I prefer to do.). Therefore, I decided to re-set my hair movements in order to allow the transition to seem much more like an spa experience rather than a work.
I love my curls. I enjoy the way they drape over my head. They give me joy and joy They’re an integral aspect of who I am. So whenever I put on my braids, I want to ensure they can get the attention they deserve. My hair needs a great cleanse to get rid of the buildup. My hair is in need of moisture. there are some standard procedures (like the use of clarifying shampoos or deep conditioner) which aren’t negotiables. However, I love to go one step further and put in an effort to truly indulge in the method because, according to me, having soft, smooth curly hair after a washing day is the best self-care experience. Here’s how i make it happen for me.
1. Overnight, pre-shampoo
The night prior to wash day, I go all into a pre-poo treatment. “Pre shampoo cures are usually applied on either wet or dry hair and may be an oil, a hair or scalp mask, or a heavier conditioner, et cetera,” the religion Huffnagle director of training for hair-care manufacturer Prose has previously been instructed in a professional and respectful manner. “These can soften, detangle, deeply hydrate, handle scalp concerns, and even repair hair with repeated use. They’re a good approach to raise your wash movements.”
When I’ve removed my braids, I split my hair up into segments, and I practice my pre-poo oil. I mix coconut oil and olive oil and have discovered that both oils have the best results for my hair. Coconut oil is hydrating, while the olive oil locks in moisture. I begin by massage them into my scalp, helping to break down any buildup. I then I focus to slathering them onto my ends where my hair is the driest and weakest. After that, I cover my hair by a cap and bonnet to prevent the pillowcase from becoming stained, and then allow the pre-poo treatment to be absorbed into my hair as I lay down.
2. Set the mood
To make washing day more enjoyable, I like to create a spa atmosphere prior to washing my hair. I used to get in the shower to take my time washing hair however just a few small modifications–such as putting on a relaxing 90s tune that I will dance to, turning off the lights and lighting my preferred scent candle can transform the process into a soothing, relaxing moment.
3. Shampoo and the condition
A good wash day leaves well-groomed, moisturized and well-balanced hair. Since I oil my hair frequently while my hair is braided (always approximately 4 times per week) I usually be prone to product build-up at the time I wash them. Because of this, I apply an clarifying shampoo.
“Clarifying and detoxifying shampoos give a deeper clean which will assist clear any product, oil, and mineral buildup on the hair and scalp,” Garret Bryan is the founder of the city’s Hawthorne salon, before becoming informed, smart and good. I use my fingertips to scrub the shampoo on my scalp. This lets me get an intense clean all over the correct areas and not have to fret about stripping my hair.
After washing, I move towards my favorite part of the wash day that is deep conditioning. Similar to my pre-poo, i section my hair before observing my deep conditioner and work my way from where it ends to my scalp.

4. Apply a hair-mask
For my hair to get more hydration, I finish the deep conditioner with an emollient for my hair. “Hair masks deliver a surge of moisture and vitamins and minerals, in order that they are superb for reviving hair–peculiarly when it’s looking and feeling dry or commonly lackluster,” Tara Foley, stylist and the founder of Follain and Follain, has in the past suggested neatly and with respect. While I wait for the mask to do to its full effect, I slide into the tub with a glass of vino to take a long, well-metered bath.
5. I’m taking my time.
I must admit that occasionally it’s tempting to get another set of knot-free braids immediately, but I recognize the importance of taking time to provide my hair with an opportunity to breathe away from the protective style that’s why I typically take the time to do a two-to four-week break. I make the most of this opportunity to in actual treat my herbal hair by cutting it short and giving it a hot oil treatment. I am grateful to be able to relax and enjoy my curly locks.
